Life Changing Moment For Mark Mayman With Free Stairlift

This year we have launched a campaign to give something back to the community. Each month of 2015 we’re giving one free fully fitted straight stairlift to a deserving case. In January Mark Mayman was nominated by his wife Jean as he suffers from muscular dystrophy. Mark needed a stairlift as getting up and down the stairs was proving difficult for both him and his wife. Since it was fitted, his home life has become much easier.

Said Mark: “I am absolutely delighted with my new stairlift. A huge thank you to my wife for nominating my case and to A1 Stairlifts for supporting those that have a real need and perhaps for one reason or another haven’t been able to have a stairlift previously. I have health issues and struggled to get up and down the stairs. Now life at home is so much easier.”

You’re Invited To Our A Be A Friend Tea Party

Be A Friend Website Banner

Did you know that over five million older people are affected by loneliness and this is on the rise?

We meet elderly and disabled people on a daily basis and understand how wide spread loneliness is and what an awful effect it can have on people’s lives. As a result we want to help Friends of the Elderly on their campaign to combat the issue. In partnership with StairliftRecycling.co.uk and Keighley Cougar’s Rugby Club we’re hosting a Be A Friend tea party on Wednesday 25 March from 2pm in our lovely new showroom.

Everyone is invited to come along and enjoy the entertainment, free refreshments, cakes and scones – please feel free to bring along your own baking to share with the group. Whether by yourself, with a friend or family member, the tea party is a chance to get out of the house, meet like-minded people, catch up with friends and chat the afternoon away at your leisure.  Fruit tea

We’re also looking for volunteers to Be A Friend for the afternoon and to help out with the event. Contact 0808 178 8487 or email headoffice@a1stairlifts.co.uk for more information.

10% of any sales made on the day will go to Friends of the Elderly charity.

Our showroom is based on 56 South Street, Keighley, West Yorkshire, BD21 1DD.

Showroom 2    A1 Art gallery

Locally-based, John Mackie lives in Haworth. He studied Drawing and Painting at the Glasgow School of Art (1972-76) under David Donaldson (The Queens Portrait Painter for Scotland). David Donaldson was one of the top Portrait Painters in Britain and in 1974 when approached by Bailley Gerald Magrath  he recommended John to do his official Portrait. Among others were Michael Kelly (Lord Provost of Glasgow) and Duncan Miller (Councill Officer for the  City of Glasgow). John has always agnowledged David Donaldsons importance and influence.

While studying at the Glasgow School of Art, he was introduced to the works of Monet, Renoir and Pissarro. In particular the influence of Monet can be seen in his own painting style and his is an obvious love of impressionist work.

Mackie gained the W H Shanks Award for drawing in 1976 and later received a travelling scholarship from The Scottish Arts Council (1976/77) which he used to work in America and Canada. On his return he lived and painted in Italy and France where he was inspired by the landscape and cities around Tuscany, Umbria and Chianti. In France, he spent time in Paris where he discovered the wealth of material in the everyday scenes around cafés and bistros, especially around the districts beside Place du Tetre and the Champs Elysees.
