Customer testimonials

“Although it was very short notice, our stairlift installation was completed on the morning prior to my wife’s’ discharge from hospital.  It has worked perfectly for the last two years and I have had no need to call anyone out to the lift”.

“A1 Stairlifts is a true and apt name.  The stairlift has fulfilled our expectations and is essential in our home.  I would absolutely recommend them.   From two 87-year olds, who were 85 when it was installed, we feel they are excellent value.”

Guide to Choosing a stairlift

A Guide to Choosing a Stairlift

Once you have made the decision that you need a stairlift, A1 believe that buying the right stairlift should be a straightforward process.

Unfortunately many customers tell us that before finding A1 that they have become very confused - it seems they are bombarded with information from many manufactures each claiming to have right solution for them.

Please have a look at our 'step by step guide' below, before contacting A1 for independent advice which takes into consideration all the major manufacturers and solutions before recommending a solution.

Step 1: Check if your stairs are suitable for a stairlift

The majority of staircases are suitable for some kind of stairlift, there are a few instances when it is not possible:

It’s not possible for us to fit a lift if:
- your stairs are less than 27 inches wide stringer to stringer
- if the stair angle is less than 38 degrees
- if the stair angle is more than 54 degrees
- if it is not possible to put the stairlift adjacent to an external wall
- there are permanent obstructions such as radiators or wall heaters which cannot be removed.

Step 2: Decide whether you need a straight or curved stairlift

There are many different shapes and size of staircase, the majority are straight and stairlifts will usually fit out of the box, but if your staircase has landings and corridors, you will need a curved stairlift which needs more planning, as rails need to be made to fit your staircase.

Step 3: Check if you are eligible for a grant

Some customers are eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant from their local council, towards the cost of adapting their home, please click here to find out more

Step 4: Check if you are exempt from VAT

Some customers may be exempt from paying value added tax (VAT) on their stairlift and installations - please click here to find out more.
