Response to energy price increases |

Gordon Lishman, Age Concern’s Director General, said:
“Significant increases in energy bills are a major concern for many
older people. Pensioners living on a low, fixed income will struggle to
pay these inflation-busting bills. Energy companies should do
everything they can to protect vulnerable groups, such as pensioners,
from price increases.”
“We urge older people to consider shopping around for their energy
provider. There are many established companies offering competitive
rates for fuel costs. Older people should also check they are receiving
all the benefits they are entitled to and can contact their local Age
Concern for advice.”
“1.8 million pensioners live in poverty. The Government must act to
raise the Basic State Pension to at least £114 per week to ensure
pensioners have enough money to cover basic living costs.”
